Effective Date: October 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) is issued by Otopair Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Otopair,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Otopair operates a technology platform that connects vehicle owners with independent automotive repair shops for the discovery, booking, and payment of vehicle services. This Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use our mobile applications, our website at otopair.com, our shop portal, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”). It does not apply to information that Partner Shops (defined below) collect through their own channels.
This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Use, which govern your use of the Platform and incorporate this Policy by reference. By creating an account or using the Platform, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy; if you do not agree with them, do not use the Platform. The Platform is offered in the United States and this Policy describes practices in the United States only. We also provide a short notice describing the categories of information we collect, and the purposes for which we collect them, at or before the point of collection in the app.
Otopair’s role. Otopair is a marketplace and referral platform. The repair shops listed on the Platform (“Partner Shops”) are independent businesses; they are not owned or operated by Otopair, and they are solely responsible for the services they perform. When you book a service, we share the information necessary to fulfill that booking with the Partner Shop you select, as described in Section 4. If you use the shop portal on behalf of a Partner Shop, Section 9 describes how we handle your information.
In this Policy, “Personal Information” means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with you or your household.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide to us. We collect the following categories of information that you provide directly:
- Account information: your name, email address, mobile phone number, and password when you create an account.
- Vehicle information: the year, make, model, trim, and mileage of your vehicle(s) and, if you choose to provide them, your VIN, license plate number, and photographs of your vehicle.
- Booking information: the services you request, appointment dates and times, the Partner Shop you select, and any notes you attach to a booking.
- Communications: messages you exchange with Partner Shops through the Platform, correspondence with our support team, and reviews or ratings you submit.
- Preferences: your marketing and notification preferences.
- Conversations with Oto: the questions you ask and the information you provide to Oto, our automated assistant, together with Oto’s responses.
Third-party sign-in. If you create an account or sign in using Google or Apple, we receive limited profile information from that provider — your name and email address (or, if you use Apple’s Hide My Email feature, a private relay email address) — as authorized by you through that provider. We do not receive your password. Your use of a third-party sign-in service is also subject to that provider’s terms and privacy policy.
Payment information. Payments on the Platform are processed by Stripe, Inc., our third-party payment processor. Your full card number is transmitted directly to Stripe and is not stored on Otopair’s systems. We receive limited payment details from Stripe, such as the transaction amount, card brand, the last four digits of your card, and payment status.
Information collected automatically. When you use the Platform, we collect device and usage information, including your device type and identifiers, operating system and app version, IP address, general log data, activity on the Platform (such as screens or pages viewed and searches performed), and crash and performance diagnostics. On our website, we and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, security, and preferences; we do not use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising. When you join our waitlist, we record how you reached our site (the campaign tags on the link you followed, the first page you visited, and the referring website) with your email, so we can see which of our posts and channels bring people in; we don’t use it for advertising.
Location information. With your permission, we collect your device’s location to show you Partner Shops near you. Precise location is collected only while you are using the app and only if you grant the applicable device permission; you may instead use the Platform with approximate location or by entering a ZIP code. We do not collect location information in the background.
Information from Partner Shops. After a booking, the Partner Shop may provide information to the Platform about your service, such as the work performed, completion status, and invoice details, which becomes part of your service history. Partner Shops provide service records to us only for services booked through the Platform. We do not receive service records from Partner Shops for vehicles that were not serviced through an Otopair booking.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described in Section 1 for the following purposes:
- Operate the Platform: create and maintain your account, display nearby Partner Shops, schedule bookings, process payments through Stripe, deliver receipts, and maintain your vehicle service history;
- Provide support: respond to your questions and help resolve disputes between users and Partner Shops;
- Keep the Platform safe: detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Use;
- Improve the Platform: understand how users interact with features, diagnose problems, and develop new features and services;
- Operate and improve Oto: generate Oto’s responses using the information you provide and your vehicle’s recorded history, review conversations for quality and safety, and improve the accuracy of the assistant;
- Communicate with you: send transactional messages such as booking confirmations, reminders, and receipts, and, unless you opt out, marketing communications about Otopair;
- Build Data Products and Vehicle History Data: create the Data Products and Vehicle History Data described in Section 3; and
- Comply with law: satisfy tax, accounting, legal, and regulatory obligations.
3. Aggregated Data, De-Identified Data, and Vehicle History Data
We use Platform data — for example, bookings, pricing, vehicle attributes, and service outcomes — to create aggregated and de-identified datasets and analytics products (collectively, “Data Products”), such as average repair pricing by region, service frequency by vehicle model, or parts demand trends. We may sell or license Data Products to third parties.
Data Products do not identify you. Before information is included, we remove or transform identifiers (such as your name, contact details, and precise location) so that the data cannot reasonably be linked to you, your household, or your device. We maintain technical safeguards and business processes designed to keep Data Products de-identified, we do not attempt to re-identify them, and we contractually prohibit recipients from attempting re-identification.
A documented service history is an asset for a vehicle: it supports resale value and helps future owners, buyers, and service providers understand a vehicle’s condition. We create vehicle history records (“Vehicle History Data”): records keyed to a vehicle identification number (VIN) that include vehicle attributes, mileage at the time of service, the services performed, service dates, and the identity and general location of the servicing Partner Shop. Vehicle History Data does not include your name, contact information, account identifiers, device identifiers, payment information, photographs, or the content of your communications.
We may license Vehicle History Data to vehicle-history report providers and automotive marketplaces, in each case under contracts that prohibit the recipient from using the data as a factor in establishing any consumer’s eligibility for credit, insurance, or employment, from using it in any manner that would render Otopair a consumer reporting agency, and from using it to identify, locate, or market to any vehicle owner. You may exclude your vehicle from Vehicle History Data at any time, as described in Section 6.
5. Mobile Information
Your mobile phone number and your consent to receive text messages from Otopair will not be shared with, sold, rented, or transferred to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. This applies regardless of any other data sharing described in this Policy. We share mobile information only with our messaging service providers, and only so that they can deliver messages you have asked to receive.
6. Your Choices and Controls
Account information. You can review and update your account and vehicle information at any time in the app.
Marketing. You can opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any marketing message and opt out of marketing push notifications in your device settings. We will still send transactional messages related to your bookings and account.
Location. You can change or revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings.
Vehicle History Data. You can exclude your vehicle(s) from Vehicle History Data at any time in the app at Settings → Privacy → Vehicle History Reports, or through the “Your Privacy Choices” link at otopair.com/privacy-choices. We do not require you to verify your identity or provide additional information in order to opt out, and the setting takes effect immediately. We also honour browser opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control, as a request to opt out. Opting out stops your vehicle’s service records from being included in Vehicle History Data we license after your opt-out, and we will direct recipients to delete previously licensed records for your vehicle. Opting out does not affect Data Products, which are aggregated and de-identified.
Account deletion. You can delete your account in the app at Settings → Account → Delete Account, at otopair.com/delete-account, or by emailing support@otopair.com. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your Personal Information, except for records we are required or permitted to retain as described in Section 10. Deleting your account also excludes your vehicles from Vehicle History Data we license after deletion.
7. Your U.S. State Privacy Rights
Depending on the U.S. state in which you reside, you may have the right to: (a) know and access the Personal Information we have collected about you, including in a portable format; (b) correct inaccurate Personal Information; (c) delete Personal Information; (d) opt out of the sale of Personal Information, the sharing or processing of Personal Information for targeted advertising, and certain profiling (other than the licensing of Vehicle History Data described in Sections 3 through 6, from which you may opt out, Otopair does not engage in these activities); and (e) not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
Exercising your rights. You may submit a request in the app or by emailing support@otopair.com. We will verify your request using your account credentials and the email address or phone number on file, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law (generally 45 days, subject to permitted extensions). Where permitted, you may use an authorized agent to submit a request; we will require proof of the agent’s authorization and verification of your identity.
Appeals. If we decline to act on a request, we will explain why. You may appeal our decision by replying with “Appeal” in the subject line. If your appeal is denied, you may contact the Attorney General of your state.
Opt-out preference signals. Where required by law, we honor browser-based opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, as a valid request to opt out of the licensing of Vehicle History Data associated with your account. Our website does not otherwise respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
California disclosures. In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of Personal Information, from you directly and from your use of the Platform: identifiers (name, email address, phone number, device identifiers, IP address); customer records (account and vehicle information, including VIN); commercial information (bookings and transaction history); internet or other electronic network activity (in-app usage and diagnostics); geolocation data (approximate location and, with permission, precise location); audio or visual information (photographs you upload); the content of your conversations with Oto; professional information (for shop portal users, role and employer); and inferences limited to your service preferences. We collect these categories for the business purposes described in Sections 2 and 9 and disclose them for business purposes to the recipients described in Sections 4 and 9.
The only category of Personal Information we sell is vehicle information — vehicle attributes, VIN, mileage at service, services performed, service dates, and servicing shop — which we license as Vehicle History Data to one category of third party: vehicle-history report providers and automotive marketplaces. We do not sell or share any other category of Personal Information, and we do not share any Personal Information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You may opt out at any time via Settings → Privacy → Vehicle History Reports or the “Your Privacy Choices” link, and we will honor verified opt-out requests within 15 business days. We do not knowingly collect or sell the Personal Information of consumers under 16 years of age. California “Shine the Light”: we do not disclose Personal Information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
Nevada. Nevada residents may direct opt-out requests regarding covered information to support@otopair.com.
8. Notice of Financial Incentive
We do not currently offer any financial incentive, such as credits, discounts, or payments, in exchange for your Personal Information. If we offer one in the future, we will describe its material terms in this Section and ask you to opt in before you take part, and you will be able to withdraw at any time.
9. Shop Portal Users
This Section applies to you if you use the Otopair shop portal as an owner, manager, service advisor, technician, or other individual acting on behalf of a Partner Shop. Your use of the shop portal is governed by the Shop Portal Terms of Use.
What we collect. Your name, work email address and phone number, your role at the Partner Shop, your login credentials, your device and IP information, and your activity in the shop portal — including the bookings you handle, the quotes, estimates, inspection findings, photographs, and job-status updates you submit, and the messages you exchange with vehicle owners.
How we use it. To operate the shop portal and attribute each submission to the person who made it; to secure accounts and detect misuse; to support the Partner Shop and resolve issues with vehicle owners; to display your first name to a vehicle owner who has selected you as their technician; to maintain the service records and health-score history of the vehicles you work on; and to comply with law.
How we share it. With your Partner Shop, which can see your activity in the shop portal; with vehicle owners, limited to your first name where you are assigned to their booking and to the inspection findings, estimates, and updates you submit for their vehicle; with our service providers as described in Section 4; and as required by law or in a corporate transaction as described in Section 4. We do not sell information about shop portal users and we do not use it for marketing to you beyond communications about the shop portal.
Retention and your rights. We retain shop portal user information for as long as your Partner Shop remains on the Platform and thereafter as needed for the record-keeping purposes in Section 10. The submissions you make become part of a vehicle’s service history and are retained with it. The rights described in Section 7 apply to you according to the law of the state in which you reside; requests may be made to support@otopair.com.
10. Data Retention
We retain Personal Information for no longer than reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Specifically: account and vehicle information is retained for the life of your account; transaction and payment records are retained for up to seven years to satisfy tax, accounting, and legal requirements; automatically collected log and diagnostic data is retained for up to 24 months; and conversations with Oto are retained for up to 24 months. When a retention period expires, or when you delete your account, we delete or de-identify the information; de-identified information and Vehicle History Data may thereafter be retained and used as described in Section 3, subject to your opt-out rights under Section 6.
11. Security
We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect Personal Information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, including encryption of data in transit, access controls, and least-privilege practices, consistent with the reasonable-safeguards requirement of the New York SHIELD Act. Card payments are handled by Stripe, which is certified as a PCI DSS Level 1 service provider. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; in the event of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the appropriate regulators as required by applicable law, and in any event within thirty days after the breach is discovered where New York law applies.
12. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is intended for users 18 years of age or older, and account holders confirm at registration that they are 18 or older. We do not collect date of birth. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with Personal Information, contact support@otopair.com and we will delete it within fourteen days. We do not sell the Personal Information of anyone we know to be under 18.
13. Third-Party Services
The Platform may contain links to Partner Shop websites and relies on third-party services such as Stripe. The Android version of the Platform uses Google Maps to display Partner Shop locations; information collected by Google in that connection is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, available at https://www.google.com/policies/privacy. The iOS version of the Platform uses Apple Maps. The practices of these third parties are governed by their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
14. Changes to This Policy
Otopair may amend this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the app or by email before the changes take effect, and we will update the Effective Date above. Your continued use of the Platform after the Effective Date of an amended Policy constitutes acceptance of the amendment.
