Every shop on Otopair passes the same checks before it goes live. Here’s what they are — and what they aren’t.
What we verify
Registered. Every shop’s New York State DMV repair shop registration is checked against the public registry before it’s listed. You can check it yourself: DMV repair shop lookup.
Insured. Garage liability and garagekeepers coverage on file before listing, re-verified every year.
Signed the rules. Every shop agrees in writing: no charging above a written estimate without your approval, no conditioning service on a review, no retaliating for one.
What that means for you
Your car is never held over a payment. When you pay through Otopair, the shop has agreed in writing that it cannot hold your vehicle over that payment — even if the shop and Otopair have a disagreement between us. That’s in every shop’s contract, and it’s the reason to pay through the app.
Your price is the price. Every booking is a written estimate. Under New York law the shop can’t charge above it without your consent, and in Otopair that consent happens in the app, on the record.
Reviews you can trust. Only members who completed and paid for a booking can review it. We never remove a review for being negative, and we never remove one because a shop asked.
What verification means — and doesn’t
Partner Shops are independent businesses. Passing our checks means a shop is registered, insured, and has agreed to our rules. It isn’t a guarantee of any particular repair. You choose the shop; we make sure you have what you need to choose well — its verified reviews, and a way to check its registration yourself.
If something goes wrong, tell us in the app within 14 days of the final charge and we’ll help. Warranties and Service Issues →
